Colour trend to watch – Rust

It's the last week of fashion month, and I for one have been interested to see what styles are taking to the streets for upcoming seasons. A couple of trends I admired were embroidered folk pieces, ring detail bags and ruffle blouses. Is it just me, or has anyone else wanted to jump on a plane to Milan this week? I for one have never visited, but it's most definitely on the list for next February. Back in June, I had the pleasure of visiting Rome. One colour that I couldn’t escape was Terracotta. Buildings are dripping in this tone, and for a monochrome lover like me it was definitely a challenge sharing my travels whilst introducing this warmness throughout my Instagram feed. Since my trip, I have been drawn to copper tones both in the home and in the wardrobe. It’s a colour that really compliments black, white and navy. It’s definitely one to watch out for!

Todays look is my first post to feature this rusty tone. With a bit of a tan, this colour really pops. I have tried to mix up the styling to accommodate for the unpredictable Sydney weather. I have done this by styling a wrap around dress under a silk sleeveless blouse. I love experimenting with layers, and it shouldn't be exclusive just to winter. If you shop fabrics such as linen and 100% cotton, then it avoids you feeling uncomfortable in warmer climates. I also like to experiment with button down Shirts tied at the front to give that relaxed thrown together look. Style tip – buy one size up and pull off the shoulder for an instant chic feel.

I have finished my look with a pair of knot slippers and my trusty Gucci pieces to add a bit of luxe to the look. It’s also a designer that I have been heavily invested in this season. I think next on the list is the skinny tan belt!

Seventies Revival

Robes, bodysuits, oversized sunnies all speak 70’s summer. Moving into the warmer months and help from the streets of Fashion Week, boho vibes are making a comeback. I like how the pyjama trend is slowly moving across into the summer months with a hippie twist; the silk shirts are becoming longer, looser and undone. Linen is starting to make an appearance again, and bodysuits with denim have never felt so good. In all honesty, bodysuits have never really been the most flattering on me, until today. I can rarely go without a bra, and took a gamble on this lace up knitted number. Surprisingly it hugs me in all the right places. I have opted for high waisted mom jeans to cinch me in at the right places. Who doesn’t love a high waisted jean?

It’s been a while since owning a kimono, but I was sold after seeing a street style image on Pinterest last week - An oversized print version styled undone with jeans. I have been pulling inspiration from that platform more and more and actually could spend hours on there! Please tell me I’m not the only one!

The Piped Shirt

If there are two items that are heavily rotated in my wardrobe it’s denim and shirts. In my opinion you can never have enough! They are staples which can be styled in so many different ways and layered if need be for winter, or deconstructed in summer. Today’s blouse could definitely be worn undone with a bikini underneath in a couple of months time. I’ll just switch up jeans for cut off shorts. I’ve been a big fan of the pyjama trend for a good few months, and I don’t see it going anywhere anytime soon. The majority of blouses that are being added to my staples is the piped shirt, and believe it or not colour is making an appearance. You can thank Gucci for that this season especially with the burnt orange and deep mahogany which are key colours into breaking the monochrome mould. 

I’ve kept the jewellery simple with a rose gold pendant that was a bridesmaid gift from best friend a few months back. Thought it paired well with the deep red piping on the blouse. My new Gucci bag is also making it’s first appearance on the blog! After long deliberation, it was time to break the black bag rule and opt for something more neutral for the summer. Plus, small bags are on trend this season. As long as you have your phone, cards cash and keys you’re good to go! This bag does come in a few sizes so if you’re looking for something more everyday I would definitely upgrade to the medium size.

Eighteen months worth of content disappeared, but thankfully reappeared two days later. Whether you are a creative using Instagram, or using the platform for personal photos it’a definitely an upsetting time to see memories disappear. It also opens your eyes that we rely so heavily on technology these days and we would be lost without it!
