The Off Shoulder Blazer

One trend that stuck for all four fashion weeks was crisp tailoring and denim. Whether it be a bell sleeved white shirt paired with frayed jeans, or mom jeans styled with a power jacket, it was a big hitter throughout the street style pages of Elle and Vogue.

It’s fair to say I have a good collection of blazers, and todays one might be my new favourite. The cut is flattering, sitting just below the shoulders. I was tempted to wear a shirt underneath, but figured the jacket speaks for itself. Better to keep the styling simple, adding my new statement Chloe Faye bag, which I am totally in love with! As mentioned in my last post, ‘real’ denim has been an investment this season and after purchasing black mom jeans it was time to get a pair of washed denim.

Todays look was shot in Paddington, one of my favourite suburbs in Sydney. It’s probably the one of the most European-looking places and is perfect for my blazer/jean ensemble. 

In less than two months, Chris and I will be heading to Europe to catch up with friends and family in Italy. Whenever we plan holidays, I am always drawn to that side of the world even though I have so much to still see in Asia and South America. In the interim, I’ve been checking out Pinterest for European street style inspiration for upcoming shoots. I miss short trips to European cities from my home town, and if I was still there I’d be on the plane to Paris once a month with tripod in hand.

How To Wear Tailoring & Denim

Weekends are a time to kick back, relax and enjoy a good brunch! Despite my Sunday's consisting of lazy mornings and copious amounts of tea, my Mon-Fri wardrobe tends to follow me through to the weekend with one subtle change - denim. 

These last few weeks, I've been investing in "real" denim for the colder months. No more stretchy skinny jeans sorry, this post is dedicated to the denim we all knew back in the 90's. Mom jeans can be quite tricky to master, but they actually suit most shapes and sizes and can work for most women. So how can you style these with your favourite tailored pieces?

1. Keep the tones simple

You want your outfit to match, and mixing the tones can make the look too busy. When I'm styling my denim on weekends, the first thing I think about is the wash of the denim vs the tones in the tailored garment. Warm tones tend to work well with black jeans, and cold tones work better with blue. Today's coat is a buttery beige colour, which I class as a warm tone.

2. Consider your height and heels

I'm only 5ft 3 with a small waist and larger thighs, so finding the right cut of jeans can be quite a challenge. There are ways to elongate yourself and i'm not talking about angles of the camera! Mom jeans look great with this seasons square heel, just like the Senso's I have on in this post. I just make sure I'm adding a pointed toe to draw everything in from the baggy nature on the leg. For taller ladies, a pair of sneakers can work well.

3. Smarten up

There is no right or wrong here, just pick your favourite tailored pieces. Today I have opted for a linen blouse and tailored woolen coat. These are the items you can wear to the office Mon-Fri, but become more relaxed for weekend wear as soon as they are styled with denim. You can always change up the coat for a blazer or add a neck scarf as a chic alternative.

Frayed Hemlines

Black denim with an oversized blazer. The statement pieces that should be in everyones closet. Whilst planning my Autumnal wardrobe I am challenging myself to “How many different ways can I style a blazer?” If you have read my previous posts, you’d know that in the last couple of months I have been building my blazer section to my wardrobe quite nicely. You can never have enough, and these are the reasons why:

1. They are the great contrast against denim. Business up top, party down low. You get the gist.

2. It’s not just for Autumn. Yes, I wore a blazer in 40 degree Perth heat this Christmas. It’s also a great piece to layer in Winter under a wool coat. I can’t wait for for this!

3. Instantly smartens up a look. If you are feeling like your outfit is a little casual for a certain occasion the blazer might be the answer.

Today’s post isn’t all about the blazer. It’s actually about my haul from LA last month and how I’m reassessing my need for denim in my wardrobe. Day to day, I like wearing jeans when I’m not in tailoring so why not share these looks with you! I have been on the hunt for frayed jeans for some time and being a Northern Hemisphere gal with a love for Zara, it only seemed right to raid the winter sale rail given these pieces will be coming to Australia full priced any day soon! That’s the best part of shopping overseas in sale time. Would you believe me if I told you I scored these jeans for just $12? You can’t even get brunch for that in Sydney so I was pretty chuffed! Styled with a good jean belt and a Calvin tee, this is the look I can rock for my Mon-Fri job. Still keeping smart with a good pair of loafers and the trusty jacket, it’s a good balance of casual and tailored.

Back To Blazers

When the humidity accelerated in Sydney a few weeks back, one thing was on my mind…..How am I going to survive another Australian summer staying true to my style? I must admit, Autumn is the month my wardrobe loves me best. Each piece gets a lot more love with the thanks to layering. This summer, I am trying to invest in pieces that I think will see me through a few seasons. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not easy shopping this way, but it definitely makes my wardrobe smaller and enables me to wear pieces a good few times. Summer is also a great time to shop in the UK sales, online from Aus. The likes of Zara, Cos, Topshop and Asos have some of the best sales and it’s a chance to pick up a winter bargain or two that will be on trend for the colder months Southern Hemisphere. Today’s blazer I picked up in the Topshop sales, and although the temperature was nearing 35 degrees the day of purchase, it doesn’t mean you have to set you mind to thinking that you won’t get the wear from it. A classic jacket is always a winner.

Over the holidays you may have seen over on my Instagram that I headed to Perth with my loved one for my first Christmas away from home. I was nervous to be out of my usual routine watching Home Alone wrapped in a blanket after a turkey coma with the family, watching the Queens speech at 3pm. Thankfully my partners parents are both British, which meant a Turkey roast with all the trimmings was awaiting me. Thanks to Snapchat, I managed to catch up with one blogger that I met at Fashion Week. Jiawa Liu from Beige Renegade blog. It turns out she lives close to Chris’ parents, so a spontaneous meet up happened on Boxing Day. It’s awesome meeting fellow creatives, and we had a blast of a day drinking epic milkshakes and getting some killer shots. 

Todays location was at Cottesloe Beach Hotel and I couldn’t help but have a nerdy jaw dropping expression thanks to the interiors being clean and minimal. Hopefully that doesn’t show in these snaps! The LWD (little white dress) is from one of my favourite Sydney boutiques, PS the Label. It’s quite easy to style a white dress up a little too much when worn with heels, but wanted todays look to be more of a relaxed one, so opted for a pair of old kicks. It’s quite fun turning a dress into your own, styling it differently from the online lookbook. The outfit was finished off with a marble bag, silk neck tie and trusty round Raybans. The perfect look to ease back into work.

Contrasting Ethereal Lace & Leather

Last week summer was definitely here in Sydney, and after my trip back to Europe at Christmas I am happy to be back in the sunshine capturing street style with the beautiful late afternoon golden sun beaming down. And this week I am channelling bohemian chic in ethereal lace and contrasting leather. I have visited Coogee a few times but have never really paid attention to the streets and buildings. It’s always a visit from the 2 hour coastal walk from Bondi, so always end up on the beach! Andrea and I headed to Coogee mid afternoon last Friday (with a cheeky stop at Sababba in the junction first). Fed and watered, we stumbled across this European looking street with blue accents on pillars and window sills. If you follow my Instagram, you will know how much I love blue and white so I was sold instantaneously! A fresh cut and colour by my super stylist Paul, we were ready to shoot!

Streetstyle is how Boho Tailor began, and it always reminds me of the the 4 major fashion weeks which all lovers of fashion look out for online. For me, the style on the streets is far more fascinating than on the runway. There’s a sense of individuality and creativeness with everyones inner stylist shining through. 

This lace maxi dress hugs in all the right places. I would never usually choose a piece like this, but as soon as I pulled out this old leather vest I knew it would look a little edgy, yet feminine all in the same breath. The intricate detailing is beautiful and I love the neckline. I am usually too short for maxi dresses but this one is the perfect length! How cute are these shoes?? Jo Mercer is a brand that I’ve been introduced to over the last few weeks. Styles range from high mules to dainty summer sandals. The white croc is clean and polished, and that silver heel makes them feel a little Cinderella-esque. Nothing wrong with that! A dainty white necklace was enough for this dress, complimented with a grey croc styled envelope clutch bag (which my best friend in the UK bought me for Christmas). When taking pics for my blog, I like to have a big selection of images to capture the environment and styling, and I must say, Andrea and I take heaps of shots so it’s always hard narrowing them down! This is one of my favourite posts since my all white look in Paris. Maybe this means that white is my colour?
