Sleepwear As Daywear

With Silk and sleepwear being brought forward into daytime hours, there can be a lot of confusion how to style this trend. I for one am loving this relaxed take on a classic shirt! With the weather getting colder, softer fabrics are a winner to take away the chill and make you feel like you have literally jumped out of bed and left the house in your comfiest threads. 10 more minutes in bed in the a.m I’ll take that!

On the streets of International Fashion Weeks, I saw many ways to style sleepwear inspired garments. Even better, it’s a trend you can take into the warmer climates (that’ll be me next week, stay tuned!)

So that being said, how can you wear yours this season?
  •  Layered up. That’s exactly how I have styled mine today. The perfect addition to a turtle neck or even a plain white tee. Try mixing up the fabrics. Go silky on top and cotton or wool underneath for that added retro vibe.
  • Off shoulder. I wore one of my silk shirts in a post a few months back like this and you guys showed so much love on Instagram! Unbutton your blouse from chest up and sit it just off the shoulders. You’ll be feeling like a St Tropez lady in no time!
  • Add denim. This has to be one of my favourite ways to wear a pyjama blouse, especially when the jeans are high waisted and have a loose look to the leg. Add a buckle belt and tuck in your blouse for a 90’s chic look.

I’ve compiled some of my favourite pyjama blouses for you to shop at the bottom of this post. Happy shopping!

Midi Skirt Styling

Whilst the Northern hemisphere is preparing for summer, down in Australia we are preparing for winter. Well let’s be honest here, it’s hardly the bitter minus temperatures I grew up with in the UK! In Sydney, May has been the warmest on record, which means I haven’t yet fully delved into the heavy layering I’m wishing for.

Midi skirts are a great piece for these in between months, and can be classed as an investment piece. They can be worn with boots in the winter or loafers come summer. These are the kind of pieces which help you build a capsule wardrobe; the items which will be on rotation through all seasons. So how can you style a midi for winter?

Here are my pointers:

  • Pick a style to match your shape and height. Flattering options include high waisted, fishtail and the button down.
  • If you’re feeling adventurous, try styling a denim midi over a pair of flared jeans. It’s not for everyone, but skirts over trousers are going to be big next season. I experimented with this trend at Fashion Week last week, and you can take a look here. If you are opting for a more tailored style skirt, make sure the trousers you pair underneath are of a similar fabric. It’s also nice to keep these the same colour, which will add a luxury feel to your look.
  • There are no rules with footwear. If your midi is button down, try adding a pair of knee highs and unbuttoning a few buttons. For milder days, loafers are a winner.

Today’s midi is from Revolve Clothing, and lucky for you there’s 20% off site wide using code “TAKE20” at checkout. Offer ends tomorrow night so get in quick!

Weekend Habitat: THE APARTMENT By The Line

Wishing this could be a weekend habitat, but instead it's an imaginary one. One of my favourite interiors worldwide that I had the pleasure of photographing in March. Each space is made special by it's context: the intimate setting of a home. After well received comments on my LA posts, it was time to visit the NYC store. Once again, immersing myself in a space of perfectly designed interiors and the homewares that embody them.

MBFWA: Flared Sleeves & Layers

Checking in for a quick post from Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia. Today's look feels very Victoriana. I found my love for the pleated ruched sleeve in New York a couple of months back, and knew I had to revisit this trend for Fashion Week. I'm also experimenting with different layers coming into winter, and the first time I have worn a skirt over culottes. The silhouette is perfect, made extra special with a high pair of Mary Jane's from Senso and my Chloe Faye.

Two Winter Essentials

With winter just around the corner (I say “winter’ lightly) it’s important to keep a well organised wardrobe. Before the colder months roll in, it’s time to pack away the lightweight fabrics that won’t be worn for the next few months. There are two items that become the staples for the A/W wardrobe,

Good knitwear and a tailored coat.

Year to year, these two pieces always have priority in the wardrobe, and it’s actually quite surprising how many one can own! In all honesty, my wardrobe is actually quite small with only items that will get good wear. Quality over quantity, which means less wardrobe hauls. Rotating the staples is key to maintaining a downsized closet.

Today’s look is from Jaz & Alex boutique. They stock all the key items you will need for the coming season, offering a premium online shopping experience. When shopping knitwear, it’s good to have a clear understanding of how you want the piece to fit. There are so many options available at the moment, and my shelves consist of the following:

1. The oversized cable knit This is the all rounder and can be worn with almost anything. The boyfriend fit shows effortless styling.
2. The lightweight turtle neck. Probably the most on trend at the moment. The perfect option for layering under dresses or camisoles.
3.The detailed knit. Whether it has tassels or eyelets, this is the jumper that will catch peoples eye.

Paired back with a classic coat, this combination is not only comfortable but also combines classic styling with a contemporary edge.
