Double Knitwear

Writing this on the plane from Barcelona to London, this may seem off subject whilst enjoying a European summer. That being said, the pilot just announced London in 10 degrees celsius when we land eek! This winter post might be relevant after all! Before heading on my summer adventures, knitwear and maxi coats seemed to occupy wardrobe space that bit more. The washing basket at home is still full of jumpers which were necessary pieces of clothing before leaving. 

Unfortunately, Sydney isn’t the place to experiment with heavy layer upon layer of clothing even in the winter. Instead, the chunky knits can be worn alone or with a staple coat, and skirts don’t have to be paired with 80 denier tights. This isn’t the first time I have experimented with knit on top and below this season. It can be worn a number of ways. Here are the keys ways to style this season:

1. The flared sleeve and culotte combo. This has to be one of my favourite looks from Fashion Week SS16. The best tones are the warm oatmeal kind and look killer with a pair of high heeled ankle boots and statement bag. Try adding a cuff sleeve shirt for added styling points.

2. Cable knit and knit midi. Exactly the look I am wearing today. A big fan of matching the knits so I have broken up the look with black accessories and added a pair of trusty Gazelles for a street chic feel.

3. Tweed jacket and A-Line skirt (think Chanel/Blair Waldorf Gossip Girl) This channels a more vintage style and looks on point with a pair of Mary Jane’s and white tee. So many of these retro chic looks are coming back, and think this combo is the perfect look for an Australian winter. Adding a caped maxi coat is also a winner and will make you look a part of the Parisian fashion culture in no time.

If double knitwear isn’t for you, there’s always the oversized knit and mom jeans combo which is comfortable and on trend right now. Every winter I am always on the hunt for cable knit jumpers and see them as a staple item - they never go out of fashion.

Weekend Habitat: THE APARTMENT By The Line

Wishing this could be a weekend habitat, but instead it's an imaginary one. One of my favourite interiors worldwide that I had the pleasure of photographing in March. Each space is made special by it's context: the intimate setting of a home. After well received comments on my LA posts, it was time to visit the NYC store. Once again, immersing myself in a space of perfectly designed interiors and the homewares that embody them.

Summer Layering

White and camel have been a complimentary duo these last few weeks, and feel swayed towards these neutral tones as I’m getting sun kissed coming into summer. It’s nice to wear a combination that isn’t black and white for a change, and think these two colours will be big hitters for me over the warmer months. Linen is definitely a fabric that I’ll be investing in more with the temperatures reaching 40 degrees! It’s also an alternative to the heavier tailoring pieces I style in the winter. 

edt. by Glassons is a bi-yearly limited edition collection that features easy to wear pieces with touches of high end  throughout. The neutral palette is very much my style, it was difficult to keep my bank balance in check after seeing the collection! So may great pieces including a white linen shirt that's also on my wish list! The one time I find styling at it’s hardest is peak summer, purely because in Sydney I have also thought layering is out of the question. This is my go to style and kind of freak out a little when I can’t add a few pieces of clothing to a look. I’ve already had one summer in Sydney to find my feet and figure out how to dress for summer without losing my personal style in the process. Layering is still possible when done right. And for me over the next few months it’s going to mean teaming soft, light fabrics together. This camel vest ticks that box, and it’s not too heavy for a hot day. I can also see myself wearing this with some cute denim shorts and a plain white tee for a relaxed weekend look for brunch. Add a touch of gold jewellery and small heels and hey presto, that’s an evening look sorted! 

So my basic rules of jewellery are as follows:

• If wearing grey or cool colours, opt for silver
• If wearing camel or warm colours, opt for gold.

I couldn’t resist checking out the new range of timepieces from Marc Bale, where I picked up this stunning black and gold number. As you have probably seen in previous posts, I love to style my watch with a nice bangle to make my simple neutral looks pop a little more. Plus, it’s nice to stick to one site for both the watch and accessories to save shipping costs! Just what you need in time for Christmas. I haven’t even starting my Christmas shopping, but will be smart this year buying most of my presents online for my family back in the UK. Only 19 days to go!

City Escape

Last weekend, a much needed escape was on the cards due the intense 40 degree weather we experienced in Sydney. I love looking forward to small trips, especially when the place you can call home for the weekend is surrounded my trees and ocean. Although I have visited Palm Beach before, I have never seen it via a luxury white and wood home with one balcony facing Pittwater and the other facing the ocean. It seemed the perfect spot to shoot today’s look with the palms and mountains in the background. Stay tuned for my next post to see my photo diary of this dreamy residence, I promise it won’t disappoint! 

My wardrobe is slowly filling with more white pieces. It must be my British self making up for all those times I wish I could have worn white, but the rain stopped me before leaving a store with fresh linens in hand. How I don’t miss that weather! I also appreciate small detailing, whether it be a touch of lace or crochet. It adds substance to the look, and breaks each white piece up so it’s not all the same. I love the ribbon detailing on the shorts with the tailored wide sleeves of the shirt. How good is this trend right now? I picked up mine from Perth based boutique Out With Audrey.

To accessorise the look I have added some wooden club master styled sunnies and a pair of marble shoes. I don’t own any shoes like these and really like the minimal 2 strap. The black marble running through compliment this Celine handbag, which made introducing a darker tone into this look easy. Always love a harsh contrast with styling. Flares Up Top

All white…..One of my favourite combinations easing into the warmer months. Skin’s a little more sun kissed and 99.9% chance of spilling a Pimms or two on your bright clean threads. All in the name of summer. If there’s one trend I am tempted by, it’s the flares. Whether it be up top or down low this easy breezy style reinvents the 70’s for a fresh approach to clean lines. I adore how the sleeves fall on this top, and it’s the main reason I have decided to style the chunky knit off my shoulders for a relaxed vibe. A pencil skirt has filtered back into my spring wardrobe, especially with oversized pieces on top. The ivory denim with front and back slits is sexy, but casual. It’s  a relaxed tailored piece that will take you from office to bar or even for a brunch date with a good quality white t-shirt on weekends.

There’s something beautiful about shooting on a Sunday morning. I’ve been enjoying utilising early starts with my good friend Laurie, and we’ve been drawn North Shore for a lot of our collaborations this month. The streets are calmer than in the city, and it gives us a good chance to get the best possible shots taking our time to see what works best in terms of angles and styling. We’ve been working with a soft breeze those last couple of weeks, which means the added layer doesn’t go a miss. A chunky cardigan adds the extra fabric I love, plus keeping warm from the chill that is still with us pre 8am in Sydney. 

Platforms: The balls of my feet thank me for these shoes! The wooden tan heel is slowly helping me transition into the warmer tones, whilst keeping that 70’s vibe running throughout. Matching my handbag to my shoes which is rule 101 for my S/S 15 wardrobe.

I am slightly obsessed with sandstone at the moment and you are probably aware of that if you follow my Instagram page. I can’t get enough of this beige earthy tone, and I’m preparing my Insta page for more tan pieces coming into the warmer months. Chloe, you stole my heart this season! All I need now is a Faye bag topped off with suede to make my wardrobe complete!
