New York Golden Hour

When you have the opportunity to shoot something a little special in New York, it’s time to pull out all the stops and channel a more romantic vulnerable side. Today’s article is slightly different to what I would usually post, but wanted to get creative overlooking the Manhattan skyline and do something a little more dressy and editorial before heading out for cocktails in the city. Maybe I have been watching Breakfast at Tiffany’s a little too much!

Velvet is new to my closet, and held out for this dress purely for the emerald green tones that ooze class. The wrap style is perfect to cinch in that waist, and the low neckline is a little sexy. With a dress this length, I think it’s important to show a bit of skin. I couldn’t resist adding a statement gold necklace to take this look back to the 60’s. As we are heading into winter here in Aus, the thickness of the dress is ideal for a cold night out. I was actually surprised how much fabric this dress has.

So how can you add velvet into your wardrobe? I would definitely recommend only having a few pieces, so here are my picks:

New Year, New Neutrals

It’s hard to believe that Christmas was only six weeks ago, exploring Rottnest Island in Perth and enjoying the WA weather. Where has the start of 2017 gone? Now we are into February, I have realised that January was a bit of a wash out and most definitely a rocky one. It’s been a tough few weeks, and decided to take some time off the start of the year to focus my energy into personal relationships. Sometimes with Style Structure and my full-time job I get overwhelmed and miss important things going on in my personal life. It’s important to have balance, and if things get too much it’s okay to prioritise and throw the towel in where need be. New found time meant I could focus on the important things which made me realise that my life shouldn't revolve around numbers, and how fast I am growing over on Instagram. So many times I put undue pressure to achieve more and more, but in doing this you forgo enjoying the process of creating inspiring work. Sometimes quality time with the ones you love has to win, and it's only having time away from my website I realise the importance of that. Burning the candles at both ends is not a good strategy.

Personal matters aside, January was one of the hottest months I have ever experienced in Sydney which made shooting city looks difficult. One of my fellow creative friends is currently residing in Paris. I must admit, her winter outfits are making me a little jealous. It’s strange, because this year I am embracing summer. But deep down winter is my fashion season. This weekend, it cooled down a touch for me to wear a lightweight knit. That’s the beauty of thunderstorms!

If you follow me over on Instagram, you will know how much I am channeling warm earthy tones this season. It’s also a nice change to my usual monochrome looks, and looks great with a golden glow. Last week I headed to Los Angeles for work and was hoping to photograph this look. Time just slipped away, so took to the streets of Sydney for a sundown shoot on a quiet Sunday night.

A-Line skirts are always the most flattering for my shape, with the high waist doing wonders for me. Cropped knits work well, and I was drawn to the ribbing and multi beige tones on this top. I will probably wear this with a long white shirt underneath for the colder months. That’s the beauty of transeasonal pieces - They can be styled differently for the opposite season and means you can keep your wardrobe to a minimum if styles can be carried through season to season.

Party Season Texture Mix

It’s not very often I dress up to the nines for a night out. When I was a student, I would more often than not choose an embellished dress styled to the max with accessories. Oh how things have changed! Fast forward to this year, silk is high up on my list for party season. It’s also a fabric that can be styled in multiple ways dependent on the party you are going to. I have opted to style with knitwear, mainly because I am a huge fan of contrasting. This thigh splitting skirt is versatile to be carried through to the colder months with a pair of killer ankle boots. You don’t always have to splurge on an outfit to be worn once. I always have that in the back of my mind when shopping for occasions.

The one shoulder: Chic and sexy for most seasons. There are a variety of silk, cotton and knitted available depending on your climate. It’s heating up here in Aus. Thankfully evenings by the water can be a bit windy, so the added warmth is actually welcomed. Last week was my first time on a private charter boat in Australia, and a chunky knit was appreciated whilst the sun was setting. This look would have been perfect.

To jazz up my look, I have opted for a geometric neck tie in warm caramel colour, layered with gold accessories. As mentioned in previous posts, it’s good to keep all warm tones together. I actually can’t remember the last time I wore silver.

City Escape

Last weekend, a much needed escape was on the cards due the intense 40 degree weather we experienced in Sydney. I love looking forward to small trips, especially when the place you can call home for the weekend is surrounded my trees and ocean. Although I have visited Palm Beach before, I have never seen it via a luxury white and wood home with one balcony facing Pittwater and the other facing the ocean. It seemed the perfect spot to shoot today’s look with the palms and mountains in the background. Stay tuned for my next post to see my photo diary of this dreamy residence, I promise it won’t disappoint!

My wardrobe is slowly filling with more white pieces. It must be my British self making up for all those times I wish I could have worn white, but the rain stopped me before leaving a store with fresh linens in hand. How I don’t miss that weather! I also appreciate small detailing, whether it be a touch of lace or crochet. It adds substance to the look, and breaks each white piece up so it’s not all the same. I love the ribbon detailing on the shorts with the tailored wide sleeves of the shirt. How good is this trend right now? I picked up mine from Perth based boutique Out With Audrey.

To accessorise the look I have added some wooden club master styled sunnies and a pair of marble shoes. I don’t own any shoes like these and really like the minimal 2 strap. The black marble running through compliment this Celine handbag, which made introducing a darker tone into this look easy. Always love a harsh contrast with styling. Blue Hues

Baby blue has finally snuck into my monochrome wardrobe! An early summer is gracing Sydney, so thought it was time to brighten things up a little (in baby steps of course!) I am still a minimalist at heart, but when I set my eyes on this Maven the Label dress I just had to have it. It’s sheer for the warm weather, so decided to team with a pair of trusty pleather shorts. Sports luxe style always seems to make a look that touch more cooler, so this mesh number was a winner. I can even see myself wearing this with a bikini at the beach. And with all the build up for Alexander Wang for H&M, I think the sporty styles will be sticking around for the next couple of months.

Last week I met up with fellow blogger and friend Andrea at the Grounds Of Alexandria. It was an early start attending a smoothie event which was the perfect way to wake up! Plus, the free fruit basket was a great prop for the outfit shots we captured. I must say, Not a fan of the walk from the train station when the temperature is 25 degrees at 9am. My little British body isn’t used the heat quite yet! I’ve definitely decided that a smoothie maker is on my list for the summer. For the last couple of years, green juice has been a good boost for me. But smoothies are definitely a better option in the warner months and a good breakfast option. If anyone has any good recipes please let me know!
