The Tonal Trend

Tonal dressing. The one trend that was my main focus at both London and Paris Fashion Weeks. I’m a big fan of neutral, muted colours and when styled together I instantly feel myself. I have high hopes for tonal styling transitioning into spring summer ’19. Head to toe black or rich chocolate looks were perfect towards the end of winter, but moving into spring I am also experimenting with head to toe camel/tan and by far my favourite white/cream. Layering with a similar palette was a lot of fun for Fashion Weeks, but for spring I will opt for maybe a white tee with tailored linen and a jumper thrown over my shoulders. 

It doesn’t have to be exactly the same tones throughout, and there isn’t no right or wrong. Personally I think styling similar hues like white and cream doesn’t make the outfit appear so flat and adds depth. 

So if you’re like me and less colour is a frequent occurrence in your wardrobe give this trend a go. I guarantee you won’t have to spend a fortune, and you’ll master this dressing with key pieces you already own. Party Season Texture Mix

It’s not very often I dress up to the nines for a night out. When I was a student, I would more often than not choose an embellished dress styled to the max with accessories. Oh how things have changed! Fast forward to this year, silk is high up on my list for party season. It’s also a fabric that can be styled in multiple ways dependent on the party you are going to. I have opted to style with knitwear, mainly because I am a huge fan of contrasting. This thigh splitting skirt is versatile to be carried through to the colder months with a pair of killer ankle boots. You don’t always have to splurge on an outfit to be worn once. I always have that in the back of my mind when shopping for occasions.

The one shoulder: Chic and sexy for most seasons. There are a variety of silk, cotton and knitted available depending on your climate. It’s heating up here in Aus. Thankfully evenings by the water can be a bit windy, so the added warmth is actually welcomed. Last week was my first time on a private charter boat in Australia, and a chunky knit was appreciated whilst the sun was setting. This look would have been perfect.

To jazz up my look, I have opted for a geometric neck tie in warm caramel colour, layered with gold accessories. As mentioned in previous posts, it’s good to keep all warm tones together. I actually can’t remember the last time I wore silver.

Those Tan Tones

When choosing my outfits, I tend to stick to the following colours: black, white, tan and grey. There’s something so effortless about styling these colours together, and if the slightest pop of colour sneaks in into my wardrobe I just can’t figure out how it’s going to work. I’ve had a monochrome wardrobe for nearly 2 years and wouldn’t want it any other way. It makes your mornings easier and less fussy, because all your pieces match. It’s win win! Tan has been the newest addition to my palette over the last 6 months and actually getting really into it. I am actually considering a neutral tone for my next designer handbag, instead of being swayed towards the safe, timeless black option. 

Todays look is very feminine with the full midi skirt paired with heels. I find it really difficult to wear a this length without heels, and honestly wish I wasn’t so conscious over looking swamped by a longer style skirt. I couldn’t resist these neutral toned lace up heels to add a bit of spice into the outfit. Although they have a heel, I think I will get so much wear out of these in the summer. Purely because of the block heel (which makes the shoes comfortable for walking) and monochrome hues, which guess what?? Match my whole wardrobe! Neck ties are still going strong in the accessories department and picked this one up in H&M for $5. The perfect addition to a ladylike look with tones that compliment the whole outfit.

Parisian Feels

The weather has been playing tricks in Sydney these last few weeks, which means my wardrobe has turned upside down! I recently packed away all my winter clothes (minus a few jumpers) to make space for lots of lightweight spring fabrics which the temperature just isn’t cooperating with. One transeasonal fabric that I’m all about right now is suede. I seriously can’t get enough of it after seeing it flood the streets of NYFW. Chloe is all over  the trend this season with camel 70's touches throughout. This jacket will be a staple for the coming months. Tan is filtering through my wardrobe as of late, and have even treated myself to a suede bag which you will see in my next post! Today was spent in The Rocks where sandstone were once the foundations for old Sydney. I am a little obsessed with this texture at the moment, and have been looking for this kind of backdrop for a while. Warm tones look great alongside it, especially when paired with white, and knew when I set eyes on this jacket it would also match my new white leather goods.

I was recently introduced to Singapore brand, CHARLES & KEITH which aligns well with a lot of items in my closet. Their shoes and bags are minimal and structured with a twist of contemporary elegance.  I opted for these white tassel mules which have a Proenza feel, and a large tote bag which is ideal for work. I love a good oversized style, and conveniently fits perfectly into my city lifestyle. Next weekend I am off to Melbourne so will most definitely use this as my go to for hand luggage.

I feel a little Parisian today with my hair tied up and a neck tie! It’s been a while since wearing a mini dress, and contemplating if I’m getting a bit old for this length! But when the dress fit like a glove, it just had to be done!
