Relaxed Silks

Silky delicates are favourite of mine moving into spring. I get slightly addicted to certain styles if I know it works for my shape and it’s easy to style into my weekday and weekend wardrobe. If it gives off a relaxed feel, it’s definitely a selling point. I’m already building a nice collection of camisoles to pair with lightweight skirts and denim and you should do the same! A neutral girl at heart means I’ll be sticking to nudes and warmer tones, but if you are lover of colour there are some great popping bubble pinks and baby blues filtering through for the season ahead.

Silky basics are so easy to take through into next season.  Today’s dress is a little oversized and has a beautiful plunging backline. It will be such a winner come summer with a bronzed glow, but until then a relaxed fit tee is my go to.

Never overlook small style changes in such basic pieces. Tip: Buy one size bigger in tees so that you can pull off one shoulder. It can make such a difference to the look.

The cropped raw hem flare (as you know I love) are perfect to wear under a slip dress on chilly days. They’re fun to layer and I’ve been such a fan of this throughout winter. Moving into spring, there’s definitely a bit of excitement to wear silk and linen fabrics on their own, with the only styling coming from statement shoes and bags.

Five Days In Barca

Back in June Chris and I visited Barcelona for the first time. It’s been over ten years since visiting (and living) in Spain, I can’t believe it’s not been checked off the travel list sooner. City holidays are some of my favourites, but it also means I need a small bag to fit all the essentials and avoid lugging a heavy bag around. I can’t tell you how many times I misplace my phone, or try and squeeze my device into my non-practical handbag which means it can end up on the floor with a cracked screen. This is a bloggers worst nightmare! But backpacks and beach bags are not my thing, so most of the time my phone is in my hand or back pocket ready for the next photo or Snapchat story.

These are the words of a girl who lives the majority of her day online. As I carry 2 devices at all times (one work phone and one personal) multiple Drop and Protection Otterbox cases have somewhat become my anti phone smashing prevention of choice alongside an accessory to match my neutral wardrobe. No french fries or pineapple cases here I’m afraid!

Set to go with phones in hand we were super excited to be in a new city, and there was a lot of exploring to be had. We stayed in the Gothic Quarter, which I would definitely recommend as its close to the beach, and also walking distance to ample coffee shops and good restaurants. We stayed at new development Catalonia Magdalenes and was pleasantly surprised with the decor and architecture of the place. The view from the roof meant Barcelona Cathedral was in plain sight, with the pool and cabanas making it a little difficult to leave each morning.

Each morning we walked over to Placa Reial, and had a much needed cup of coffee and tea and Hotel DO. White table cloths and a good selection of pastries meant an hour passed by in the Catalonian sunshine. Walking in a loop back to the hotel we stopped by Barcelona Cathedral most mornings. This was definitely a time my phone came out of my back pocket to capture the epic light play on the front of the church. We also found morning was so much more peaceful than in the evening, it definitely has a very different feel come night.

La Sagrada Familia was high up on our list to visit, and it doesn’t disappoint. I have honestly never viewed and appreciated architecture like it. The columns inside the church represent tree trunks in a forest. The stained glass on the each side makes the church glow either warm tones or cold, depending on the time of day. Gaudi said that “colour was the expression of life” which is why he decided to make its presence felt inside the Basilica. I would highly recommend the audio tour to make you more aware of the surroundings, encouraging you to look at the reasoning behind the architectural choices that Gaudi made. Don’t miss out on the trip to the roof. If you were following along on Snapchat you would have seen how amazing the view was and how claustrophobic the stairs are on the way back down! 

Eating out, Yelp was our go to app for some of the best restaurants in the city. We actually found a pinxto restaurant walking distance from our hotel called Bilbao Berria. We probably ate at this place 2-3 times on our trip and was one of our favourite tapas joints based on value for money and selection. If you are looking for one of the best views of the city, head over to Hotel 1898 on La Ramblas. Chillout house music with the sun setting sipping on a rum and fresh ginger cocktail had me at hello. This is how city trips should always end!

Oversized Sleeves

"You can never have enough white shirts" -  that has to be my quote of the year. A white shirt can be flattering in many ways, and nothing beats a crisp white linen paired with denim. Over the last few months, I have really challenged myself to wear this staple styled differently. Today’s shirt pushes the boundaries with anything I own. I love a good sleeve, and have dabbled in the flare sleeve earlier in the year. But there’s something so chic about the longer oversized sleeve, especially when it’s personally monogrammed.

Anna’s shirts were the talk of the town at European fashion weeks back in Feb, and have been dying to get my hands on one ever since. I am already stocking up my basket with her September drops, including the blue chambray version of this. Yes, it will probably be too warm to wear this blouse buttoned up come summer, but imagine how cute it would be for a weekend away draped over a one piece. Classic tailoring is timeless, pinning these French cuffs with a good pair of links will add that extra touch to luxe to any look.

Raw hem jeans are such a good contrast when paired with a crisp shirt. Today’s style are Rag & Bone from Revolve and honestly the softest, comfiest jeans I own. I have already treated myself to the high waisted black and white versions which you’ll see in the coming weeks!

Black accessories finished off the look and added an Italian chic look I was after. This has to be one of my most wearable looks, and have worn this combo many times since shooting it back in June. I have linked my favourite white shirts and raw hem jeans below. Happy shopping!

The layered Black Dress

Layering has been my go to styling tool for the majority of winter ’16. It was featured heavily in the European winter fashion weeks and I love to pull inspiration from them even though they are rocking summer at the moment.

When living in the UK, I discovered the website Lyst which had a good selection of high end brands. I always find it easier heading to one website typing in what I am looking for and getting an array of styles and brands all in one place! Although I own way too many coats for the Sydney climate, it’s actually quite nice leaving them out for todays post. Whether you layer a camisole, slip dress or heavier fabrics there are a few things to keep in mind when wearing this trend comfortably for any occasion. 

1. Draw attention to back detailing. I have seen some great styling this month with black dresses paired back with an off shoulder shirt. I myself have dabbled in this last month, and feel it works really well with a scoop or low back dress. 

2. Pair a slip dress with a tee and sneakers. This combo is so easy to wear, especially when worn casually. 

3. It doesn’t always need to be a tee. Try styling with a shirt or turtleneck for a suitable workwear look.

4. Flared jeans look cool too. This one is for you ladies currently in winter. The slip dress can be a little chilly this time of year, so don’t forget that layering doesn’t have to only be on your top half.

5. Add hardware. Cute chains and chokers can make this look feel more 90’s. I personally love circle detail pendants.

6. No rules on dress length. Make it work for you and take your season into consideration. Try a mini style if currently in summer and a midi style if still feeling the chill!

Today's dress is from Vale Denim and it's actually quite different to any other dress I own. It's a heavy denim that's great to wear without a coat. The eyelet detailing is also super cool and gives the dress that added bit of oomph. Sneakers just felt right to keep it more street for a day out in the city. Wearing boots would give off a different vibe altogether. Saying that, I will probably wear a good pair of knee highs with this dress for dinner dates.
