New Paddington Home

It’s starting to feel like home.

After five months of being back in Sydney, I wanted to share the progress of how my Paddington apartment is all coming together. It’s not completely finished, but getting there. It’s difficult relocating to the other side of the world with not a single piece of furniture. I’m such a home bird, and wanted to get all my large items pretty soon to feel homely. But unfortunately it doesn’t work like that. Good pieces take time to make.

My mother kept saying “you can’t have everything at once, it takes time”. As always, she was right. My priority was a bed and washing machine. Everything else has been delivered bit by bit. I also didn’t want to make the mistake of ordering items too soon and not loving them. Patience is key, as much as you just want to feel comfortable the wait is worth it.

The Living Room
My sofa from Lounge Lovers arrived in August, and up until then I was relaxing on camp chairs and a chaise lounge. It’s a timeless design, yet contemporary and textured. I was contemplating a boucle sofa, but so happy I didn’t opt for that style long-term. Instead, I figured I a statement chair in this fabric would be more sensible. This week my boucle chair from Lounge Lovers arrived and I couldn’t be more in love. I have more chairs arriving in the next couple of months (one is being made to order in Denmark so it’s due end of December).

The coffee table receives quite a bit of attention. Last year, I visited the Atelier Brancusi exhibition in Paris which inspired me a lot with stone pieces for my home. Raes hotel in Wategos Beach has also been a massive inspiration - from the design to the scents. I thought this coffee table was a nice contrast to the soft furnishings. I sourced it on Facebook Marketplace from a local designer. It was a reasonable price, and exactly the style I had in mind.

My go to scents for the living room are Figue Méditerranée by Christian Dior and Lumira Arabian Oud Interior scent. Artwork is by my friend Karissa Sparke.

Dining Room and Kitchen
When deciding on the dining table, I went against all interior design articles that encourage the same shape to match the lines of the room. My kitchen is rectangular but I opted for a circular table from Castlery. The reason I did this was because of space and vision. There is an archway that leads into my living room that I was adamant I didn’t want to obstruct, and felt a rectangular table would have done this. When I have guests over, I pull it out and add more chairs. I love the shape of the base, and think the curved lines compliment the coffee table which is in the same view. Chairs are from Harper’s Project and adore the versatility. I work from my dining table when I am not behind the camera, so they also act as an office chair; not to forget a studio chair for images.

My go to scent for the kitchen is Loewe Oregano. It’s fresh, and not overpowering. I would like to add the Cypress Balls candle into my scent collection for Christmas as it smells of pine. The print above the dining table is my own photography. I felt the Chanel in milk was fitting for the space I eat in.

My small appliances are from Sunbeam. I can’t stress how long I’ve wanted a barista style coffee machine. It makes me so happy to have a decent coffee at home, it’s the the first thing I look forward to in the mornings! The black design is slick, and compliment the black Samsung fridge and oven.

As mentioned earlier, I still have a few more pieces to arrive, and a slight restyle of the space might be welcomed to accommodate those. I was kindly sent a Jessica Yolanda Kaye art piece in the UK, so I need to frame that as I shipped that over. I am also on the hunt for a new rug to add a bit of colour into the space to replace the cream one. At the moment I am edging towards an olive and cream tone. I am also hoping to get a few more plants.

Hope you enjoyed the first reveal, and if you have any questions please send me a message on Instagram!

Farewell Lunch For Father’s Day

Before moving out of my apartment, and spending a fair bit of time apart from close family, it seemed fitting to host one last extended lunch before moving out of my humble home which I’ve resided in for the past two years. The perfect excuse to host a Father’s Day lunch with seasonal produce and the perfect occasion to upgrade from my iced coffee recipe (you may remember from a few articles back) to coconut espresso martinis watching the sunset from my living room window.

I love hosting guests, and my Samsung Fridge Freezer has been the best addition to my compact kitchen. It’s been my sidekick in hosting Christmas parties, birthday’s and arms reach for healthy snacking whilst working from home.

It’s nice to make an afternoon with family, and I like to do a few delayed courses amongst good conversation and time away from the dining table to feel more relaxed. For my Father’s Day lunch, I decided to cook chicken wrapped in bacon, served with slow roasted Mediterranean vegetables and asparagus. My dad is in his mid 80’s, and he lives for two things: days spent with the family, and holidays to hot climates. So I wanted to make a lunch that ticked both those boxes. It was a beautiful early summer Sunday, the sun beaming in, and a lunch similar to one he would eat on a Spanish Island. With his holiday with my mother cancelled last minute, I wanted to put on an afternoon to make this day special.

Finally, this day was an excuse to make alcoholic ice cube mixers where I utilised my Freezer tray to make the day before. In case you missed the recipe last time, here it is again.
Ingredients: French pressed/Moka pot brewed coffee, coconut flakes, vodka, coffee liqueur, single cream.
Method: Fill half the ice cube tray (with hot coffee, adding in a dash of coffee liqueur). Let that freeze, then fill the remaining half with single cream. Pop back in the freezer until completely frozen. Place two into a martini glass and add vodka. Add grated coconut for decoration and flavour.

Sometimes, a creamy cocktail and slab of chocolate is the perfect end to dinner party. We all have a bit of a sweet tooth in my family. It’s sad this is the last time I will entertain in this space, but I am really excited to share my new home with you really soon! The kitchen in my new place is a lot bigger, so more dinner parties to come. I’ve also upgraded my Samsung appliance, to not only match the size of the kitchen, but also to accommodate the frequent dinners I plan on hosting.

How to Utilise Your Ice Cube Tray To Make Beauty Products and Snacks

The longer I spend at home, the more creative I am becoming in an attempt to keep busy. Self-care days are definitely getting longer! I’ve been researching how to make natural beauty alternatives at home, and discovered there was a bit of a pattern… most products you can make with ingredients you might already have, but best of all you can whip up these ideas thanks to your ice cube tray. I’ve had my Samsung appliance for just over two years, and my trays are built into my freezer. I wish I knew these recipes a lot sooner, it’s taken spending more time at home to discover these fun recipes.

I’ve not only been experimenting with skincare additions, but also snacks and a revolutionary way to keep my iced coffee less watery. This is a big deal for me as coffee is a big part of my day. So read on for four ways to utilise your ice cube tray.

1. Body Scrub

Ingredients: Coconut Oil, Brown Sugar, Essential Oil, Soap
Method: Melt coconut oil and mix in brown sugar. Add a dash of oil for scent (lavender is great for relaxation) and grate quarter bar of soap. Spoon into your ice cube tray and freeze. Once frozen, you can remove the individual body scrubs and they will melt onto your skin when used a warm shower. They remove dead skin skills and leave your skin soft and nourished.

2. Flavoured Coffee Cubes

Ingredients: French Pressed/Moka Pot Coffee, Coconut Syrup (or alternative)
Method: Pour coffee and syrup into your ice cube tray and freeze.
Iced lattes can become quite diluted adding ice, so fill your glass with milk and add these coffee cubes instead! This way your coffee is just as strong.

Alcoholic version for cocktails:
Fill half the ice cube tray with hot coffee adding in coffee liqueur. Let that freeze and then fill the remaining half with single cream. Place 2 into a Martini glass and add Vodka.

3. Aloe Vera Cubes for Sunburn

Ingredients: Brewed Green Tea, Fresh Aloe Vera
Method: Brew a pot of green tea and pour into your ice cube tray. Cut Aloe Vera from a plant and scoop the gel from the stems into the trays. Freeze and apply to sunburn when needed.
Both Aloe Vera and Green tea have soothing properties. The natural antioxidants and anti-inflammatories in green tea can work to take down the angry eruption caused by UV damage. They also come in handy on a hot day at home to cool yourself down, and additionally great to sweep over your face to reduce puffiness.

4. Melted Chocolate Bites

Ingredients: Cooking Chocolate, Fresh Blueberries, Peanut Butter
Method: Melt your chocolate in a bowl over a pan of hot water. Spoon into your ice cube tray adding in blueberries or other fruit. Swap fruit for peanut butter if you're after something a little more sweet. Freeze and enjoy!

So there you have it, less conventional ways to utilise your freezer, which one is your favourite? I have some videos on my Instagram stories making these recipes which are live for 24 hours.

Weekend Habitat: Le Royal Monceau, Raffles Paris

Located on the prestigious Avenue Hoche, Le Royal Monceau embodies the Parisian "je-ne-sais-quoi" in all of its spontaneity and culture. Founded in 1928, the hotel is quintessential yet contemporary. The rooms are designed with 40's and 50's notes in mind. If you're looking for that traditional Parisian apartment, The Presidential suite is the one for you. The large panel doors and high ceilings make you question if you're in a hotel or a French luxurious home. With an added guest room, it's the perfect destination for an extended group to enjoy a night or two in the 1st Arr.

Moving onto the Ray Charles suite, the art deco curves lure you in. A rendez-vous for artists and bold spirits who are not afraid of their own era. Even though the suite is spacious, with the dropped ceilings and loft feel; it's that touch more cosy and takes you back to a time of 60's soul and jazz.

The images speak for themselves....so when can we move in?
