Slips and Statements

Season to season, the black slip dress has remained a versatile piece within my closet, and I’m sure yours too. Details change - whether it be the neckline, the straps or the length. Overall, it remains a strong option worn alone or styled layered. I actually love the update on todays Third Form dress. The tie details on the spaghetti straps add something a little more than just a simple LBD. Styling can be mixed up depending on the occasion, worn high on the neckline to look more polished or a little more loose for those easy braless beach days.

Now onto the slogan tee - I.JUST.CAN’T.GET.ENOUGH. My collection is rapidly growing and a little less serious than some of my wardrobe staples. I am finally introducing this seasons biggest colour red somewhere other than my make up bag. The pop of colour on the tee pairs back nicely with a strong lip. I've opted for a statement earrings because let's be honest... there's some amazing pairs around right now. My jewellery box is begging for more space. Something about this ensemble takes me back in time - and I’ve come to the decision it’s the sunnies, clogs and red lip that contribute to this!

Colour trend to watch – Rust

It's the last week of fashion month, and I for one have been interested to see what styles are taking to the streets for upcoming seasons. A couple of trends I admired were embroidered folk pieces, ring detail bags and ruffle blouses. Is it just me, or has anyone else wanted to jump on a plane to Milan this week? I for one have never visited, but it's most definitely on the list for next February. Back in June, I had the pleasure of visiting Rome. One colour that I couldn’t escape was Terracotta. Buildings are dripping in this tone, and for a monochrome lover like me it was definitely a challenge sharing my travels whilst introducing this warmness throughout my Instagram feed. Since my trip, I have been drawn to copper tones both in the home and in the wardrobe. It’s a colour that really compliments black, white and navy. It’s definitely one to watch out for!

Todays look is my first post to feature this rusty tone. With a bit of a tan, this colour really pops. I have tried to mix up the styling to accommodate for the unpredictable Sydney weather. I have done this by styling a wrap around dress under a silk sleeveless blouse. I love experimenting with layers, and it shouldn't be exclusive just to winter. If you shop fabrics such as linen and 100% cotton, then it avoids you feeling uncomfortable in warmer climates. I also like to experiment with button down Shirts tied at the front to give that relaxed thrown together look. Style tip – buy one size up and pull off the shoulder for an instant chic feel.

I have finished my look with a pair of knot slippers and my trusty Gucci pieces to add a bit of luxe to the look. It’s also a designer that I have been heavily invested in this season. I think next on the list is the skinny tan belt!

The Multi Season Blouse

One item that is heavily rotated in my wardrobe is the button up shirt. It’s a versatile little number that can be worn to work or worn casually on the weekends with good old denim. Is anyone else a little obsessed with the blouse this season? Whether you are Northern or Southern hemisphere, season doesn’t matter! It’s currently winter in Sydney, so trying to find different ways to style this piece. It’s not bitterly cold, so a great way to style is with a concealed layer underneath and a nice tailored coat. Try adding a pair of mom jeans and a good pair of kicks. It will give you an effortless weekend feel. Another variation is layered with a sweater over the top. Always love rolling the cuffs  over the jumper with a statement watch underneath.

Today’s look was shot over in Barcelona, where we experienced some rather warm weather. Although my Third Form blouse is a super soft (yet heavy) linen, it was still breathable in the Spanish heat. I decided to unbutton and pull over my shoulders and add a statement choker. There’s something so good about baring tanned shoulders on holidays. Jeans were out of the question (too hot sorry) so a pair of frayed hem shorts and a leg show were inevitable. It was such a shame about the lack of good sandals before leaving on my trip. I should have thought about this more beforehand! Saying that, my new Senso boots paired back well with my bag so it was all good!

New York’s Cosy Corner

On my recent trip to NYC, I knew I had to dedicate some time to cosy coffee shops. Back in 2010 whilst interning in Manhattan, coffee shops were my place of choice on weekends before making friends in a new city. Sometimes I would sit for a good two hours on my laptop people watching whilst getting a feel for the city. It was also perfect for hiding away from the cold in the winter months. I asked Christina (todays photographer) for some of her favourite coffee hangs near Soho, and after showing her some Inspiration it turns out the image I really liked on Instagram was only a short walk around the corner! Gasoline Alley is a small, raw decor cafe with charm. Exposed brick and friendly staff, I just wish I had time to spend a few hours in there watching the world go by.

Nearing the end of winter, it's still a little chilly in the city which I couldn’t have been more happy about. After two summers in Australia, I’m still not used to the scorching heat, so when I found out New York was on the cards I was excited to wear a few more layers. This off shoulder jumper showed just enough skin, and was the perfect length to style with black skinny jeans. I opted for a statement shoe - the suede mule to mix up the look a little. It wasn’t quite spring temperatures to head out without a coat, so was thrilled to find out that Sydney label Third Form prepped me for the bitter winds with this gorgeous wrap around coat. Black and classic, it will definitely be a winner for the coming season and you’ll be seeing this one a lot more!
