Silky Boho

It’s officially knitwear season in Sydney! And I must say, one of my favourites. There’s something beautiful about a chilly morning with the sunshine beaming down. I remember those autumn days fondly in NYC. This season is sometimes a difficult one to style. A mix of bare legs and covered arms, it still confuses me to this day! Will I need a scarf? A jacket? Sydney weather is a little crazy at the moment. I leave the house like a winter in Vancouver and return with my laptop bag stuffed with the layers that I am removing throughout the day!

Today’s look is trans seasonal. If you want to add a jacket, I would definitely suggest either a straight up black leather, or an oversize cardigan. Usually I channel either a boho look or a tailored look, but felt like mixing both styles today with a silk tailored skirt and a trusty bohemian fedora. The look is a little playful and has an aspect of folk to it. The movement of this skirt is a dream and couldn’t resist a few dancing shots to show off the shape! H&M in Melbourne is seriously the best store I have been too. Not only do they have ‘The Studio Collection’, but the merchandising and building itself is well created down to the finest detail. The gold light fixtures and architectural white roof is definitely a interior designers dream! 

I paired the skirt with a plain white tee and warm scarf with charcoal notes, to compliment my dark boots. How cool are the open design on the sides? The heel is just the right size for everyday, and they look good with denim cutoffs too.

Knee High Deep

I’m back in Sydney after my trip to Melbourne and have so many more posts to show you from there. As mentioned in my previous post, the streets of Melbourne made me open my eyes a little wider to what was around me. Today’s shoot was on the waterfront where VAMFF was held. With the look being fun, bohemian and a little retro it only felt right to to add a bicycle to the mix! And they were blue! Added bonus for my blue/black/white Instagram obsession. Jessie shot this look for me, and after us both spending some time behind the camera on this trip, we both knew the aesthetic we wanted from the shots. The sun setting over the water reflected wonderfully onto the glass of nearby restaurants. I absolutely love how the dress moves and it’s just my style being a little loose fitting.

Ummmm these boots……Hello! Pretty much fell in love with these from the get go, and have been counting down the days until I could wear them. Thank you 4 seasons in one day Melbourne! It was a little cold on this night, so they came in very handy. I can definitely see myself wearing these over some leather trousers and a chunky knit in the middle of winter. Tassels are a permanent fixture in m wardrobe, so this grey bag was perfect to add a bit of fun to the look. Which matched my $20 Glebe market find jacket down to the finest detail.

Fringe & Lace

Two of my favourite things after lace and knit. Do you know how excited and ready I am for the suede, leather and the fringe trend this season? Being a lover of boho and mixing vintage with new, AW15 is probably one of the seasons I am genuinely diving into head first. After seeing some of the street style at New York and London Fashion Week, it’s a trend that can’t be pursued half heartedly. Fringing has always been a permanent fixture in my wardrobe, and you might have seen me wearing that black fringed bag in Paris over Christmas. One of my many bargains a few years back in the UK. Can’t go wrong with a bit of Primark!

The best thing about this trend is you don’t have to spend a lot of money. Shops like boohoo.com, and other online stores are full of these boho inspired pieces and they won’t break the bank. Look out for fringed jackets, skirts and bags. I am heavily tempted to rock more than one fringed piece at a time! No harm in that. So today’s look was shot on the streets of Melbourne last week with fellow Sydney blogger Jessie. We headed down for VAMFF and truly made the most of the non congested streets to shoot some of our favourite looks this season. After living in Sydney nearly one year, I actually miss good hearty street style and found Melbourne had way more streets on offer to shoot. Maybe it’s because I opened my eyes more being a new city, but will definitely be going back.

Belt It

One of the highlights of Burberry Prorsum’s AW 14/15 runway was the belted scarf. For me, I loved how Cara strutted down the runway with a long chiffon version belted around the waist instead of tied around her neck. Styling at it’s finest. And here in Australia, the trend is starting to peek through now the evenings are getting cooler. Autumn is one of my favourite seasons......

So why did I move to Sydney?

Good question! Not only to pursue my love of writing and fashion, but the longer summer definitely sold it. On the flip side, when you come from a rainy city that requires layers 10 months of the year, it’s something I actually miss and brings me back to my roots. I never thought I’d hear myself say that out loud! Us Brits are well versed in layering, and how to style an outfit that adopts the colder climates. It’s not quite Autumn yet (not in my books anyway) so I can still bare my back and legs in this stunning Ruby Sees All dress. Navy is a nice alternative to black, and have always liked to team the colour with grey. My sister bought me this scarf for Christmas and I haven't had a chance to wear it until last week. This scarf is square shaped and if I’m honest, a longer rectangle shaped scarf would have probably been more flattering. But, that’s something I can consider next time I rock the scarf/belt look.
