Winter - Spring - Summer

Lately, I have been struggling with the weather changes in Sydney. Last weekend I was at the mountains in sub degree temperatures whilst Sydneysiders were enjoying 25 degree days! That’s a hot summers day in the UK, and can’t believe how crazy the weather can be here! Hence the reason for today’s post. How to dress for 3 seasons in one day! As much as I’m dragging out winter, it’s hard to avoid the tempting spring/summer pieces that are dropping into stores right now. For all you ladies who love Aussie labels, I give you Frolic Girls. Wollongong based boutique stocking classic affordable brands such as Cameo Collective, The Fifth Label, Zulu & Zephyr and many more. For the more up market female, they also have an array of more luxury directed brands: Zimmerman, Camilla and Marc, Faddoul etc. It’s a great online destination for emerging and classic pieces and if you love to get your hands on these brands from a local store then look no further.

Midi skirts are perfect for any season, and love a good old A line to accentuate height and add a bit of femininity to any look. This Fifth Label 2 piece is so versatile I’ve managed to style it three ways   for different seasons. Being a monochrome print, it’s definitely not difficult to find pieces in my wardrobe to layer this look. The knitted jumper is a year old and actually mens! Although male jumpers don’t typically fit my shoulders, it’s a nice oversized option and love I can roll the sleeves up to give that relaxed slouchy look to contrast the girly movement of the skirt. For my autumn twist on this look, I have added a lightweight Kardashian Collection trench coat to bring out the brighter tones whilst layering without bulkiness. One touch I like to add to my layered looks is rolling the sleeves over the jacket. I personally hate the feeling of scrunched sleeves! Plus it leaves room to display your favourite timepiece or arm candy.

It’s weird being back from the mountains, as loved it there and if you follow me on Instagram you will see how snap happy I have been over the last week. Currently writing this post from Melbourne. Braving The Cold

Baring my shoulders was a bit brave last week. Seriously, who would have ever thought a Brit would struggle in a Sydney winter (owning up to this sat behind my laptop). It’s probably a little premature to be wearing a black sleeveless jumpsuit, but couldn’t resist this Fifth Label little black number from NSW boutique, Wolf & Ordnance. If you haven’t come across this boutiques Instagram, you really need to! It’s clean, crisp and bright so right up my street! They stock some amazing brands: The Fifth Label, Asilio, C&M and many more. I’m a fan of good photography and they honestly nail the aesthetic and sharp imagery on social media. I remember when I was a teenager, I would venture out on a Saturday afternoon with my friends shopping. Cardiff, the city I am from is known for it’s boutiques and arcades. I was always drawn to these smaller retailers as wanted to pick up one off pieces and brands that weren’t as widespread. I think it’s really important to shop local, and keep these boutiques alive, and it’s nice I can do the same in Australia.

Most Sydneysiders are praying for summer, but if i’m honest I actually quite like this weather (as long as I wrapped up warm at home with a nice hot cup of tea). Unfortunately it’s no way warm enough to wear this jumpsuit alone, so layering is key. I opted for an Asilio Label coat for added length and a contrast in colour against the black. It looks quite thin, but don’t let that fool you. It’s so warm, no scarf was needed. The leather pockets add extra luxe to the look.

I was torn whether to style shoes or boots, but opted for the latter. Wearing shoes would have made the look feel more dressy, and wanted the outfit to feel relaxed to resinate the comfort of the look. Bulky boots from Urge Footwear were a great choice, and really loving that wooden styled heel. They are currently on sale, so if you’re after an end of season bargain these are your babies! I can definitely see me styling these with a bohemian styled dress in the summer.

Coogee Cool Tones

Last week, Andrea and I made the trip to Coogee to shoot a 2 part post. The one thing I love about this place is the difference in vibe it has in comparison to Bondi. I’ve lived in Bondi for nearly ten months and as much as I love it, there are times that it can become quite superficial. Not to mention how crowded the coastal path gets on weekends! It’s an amazing walk and understandable that it’s attracts the crowds. Coogee seems so much more low key. People aren’t as body conscious and it means that we can shoot on some awesome rocks way above the ocean without getting in peoples way. That’s what I loved about todays location: we didn’t have to rush. There’s something awesome about taking your time on something you are really passionate about. So many times I have hurried to get something done and always wished I spent those extra 5 minutes smoothing out the lines and checking it was up to standards.

For the last month, my camera screen has been broken. It must have been knocked between Paris and London in my carry on luggage. It’s so strange taking a picture and not checking it straight away. But it’s taught me one thing: to be way more aware of what I am seeing through the lens and to take my time. Remember the excitement of taking a disposable camera to be developed? It’s kind of the same feeling for me at the moment! Not knowing how the light is bouncing and whether the images are pin sharp. It’s made me a more confident photographer over this last month and fine tuned my skills of clicking that button. I have more bloggers to showcase on Boho Behind The Lens real soon, but until then, I have todays look to show you!

I think Cameo was one of the first brands I started following on Insta and It was one of the only Aussie brands I was familiar with when living in the UK. This season, they have mastered the pinstripe and gathered fabrics. This simple, yet flattering boob tube is not something I would usually wear, but teamed with wide legged trousers it seemed quite a good match. When wearing something baggy on the bottom, I always have to team with a more fitted option up top (and vice versa) and wide legged pants are still going strong this season. I must say, It was pretty difficult wearing this on such a scorching day! But thankfully the trousers move wonderfully with the sea air so unexpectedly worked well!
